This path got its name because it partly passes along a macadam road, which the local population calls the German road. It is not known where the name came from, but it is assumed that it is a road that was built during the German occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The path goes partly through the Neretva canyon and passes by the Bunski canal, a 1 kilometer long and deep cut of the Neretva south of Mostar. The path also passes by the Orthodox monastery Žitomislić and by the famous stone vineyards in the municipality of Čitluk.
