This cycling route, 28.2 km long, includes a network of local and gravel roads that connect World War II monuments. The war claimed many victims, leaving behind the desolation of the civilized, cultural and sacred part of life. At that time, 66 Franciscans, whom the people call the "Herzegovinian Franciscan Martyrs", were killed, along with many other innocent victims. Široki Brijeg is the focus of the Memorial Center, a spiritual and cultural center with a large Ethnographic Museum and a library dedicated to the Herzegovinian Franciscan martyrs, which is the starting point of this route, and ends at Bilim, where there is a large cemetery complex and the Memorial Center. This route actually pays tribute to all the victims.

PROVINCES THROUGH WHICH THE TRAIL PASSES

The Peace Cycling Trail passes through the municipality of Široki Brijeg, and we will mention more about it below in the text:

City of Široki Brijeg
The administrative, spiritual, cultural and economic center of the West Herzegovina County is also one of the favorite destinations for cyclists in this region. Several trails with a length of 216 km pass through Široki Brijeg. The picturesque, picturesque Herzegovinian villages with traditional architecture, the remains of the ancient town of Mokriskik, the medieval fortress of Borak, the river Lištica, an incredible landscape intertwined with hill and mountain massifs, wild valleys and canyons all the way to the quiet lowland area, delight every visitor again and again, because each new tour is something new. research, new adventure.

SHORT INFO DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAIL

The journey begins in Široki Brijeg, from where you climb towards the villages of Gornji Gradac, Grabova Draga and Bile. Halfway from Grabova Draga, north towards Goranci, there is a Misište where a holy mass has traditionally been celebrated for hundreds of years in memory of the difficult times for Christianity in these areas. It is the place where, during the time of the Turks, the friars and their believers hid in order to celebrate the holy mass. After visiting Misišta, we continue our journey towards the Cemetery of Peace on Bilim, a large cemetery complex and memorial center on Bilim, designed as a gathering place for all victims from World War II and the Homeland War and victims killed during the communist regime. After visiting Groblje mira, there is a descent towards Široki, that is, the location from where our journey started.

RECOMMENDATION

Although the first part of the trail takes us through populated areas and you drive on an asphalted section, on the section from Široki Brijeg to Bila you drive on a macadam part of the trail that has a lot of climbs, but is very well paved and does not pose a problem for driving. As part of this section is driven through uninhabited areas, we recommend that you stock up on sufficient amounts of water in Široki Brijeg. We always believe that on longer rides it is necessary to bring a mini tool and a tool for patching inner tires, so the rule also applies to this section. We definitely recommend that you inform your family or friends about your cycling plans before going for a ride.
Helmet mandatory!
