Embark on an adventurous cycling route that takes you from the heart of Mostar to one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most stunning natural gems – Blidinje Nature Park. This route offers a perfect blend of challenging rides and breathtaking landscapes, from rocky mountain trails to scenic plateaus and the tranquil Blidinje Lake.

Starting in Mostar: Urban Charm and First Challenge

Your journey begins in Mostar, a city famed for its Old Bridge and rich history. Leaving the urban streets behind, you head northwest, following a paved road toward Goranci. This initial stretch, approximately 25 kilometers long, guides you through increasingly rural terrain, opening up to wilderness that beckons for exploration.

The First Climb: Goranci to Bogodol

After passing Goranci, you’ll encounter the first serious ascent. A steep gradient of around 10% will test your endurance, but the reward comes swiftly. After five kilometers of steep climbing, the road eases into a more manageable incline of around 5% for an additional 11 kilometers. This section offers fresh mountain air and serene plateaus, providing a perfect escape into nature far from the city’s hustle.

Bogodol: The Start of the Gravel Adventure

Reaching the mountain lodge in Bogodol, the pavement gives way to gravel that will lead you all the way to Blidinje. This 30-kilometer section presents an exciting mix of gentle climbs and descents. While not overly demanding, it requires good physical fitness and bike-handling skills. Along the way, you’ll be immersed in stunning natural beauty – from dramatic rocky formations to vast pastures home to wild horses.

Key Turnoffs and Navigation

The gravel section includes two key turnoffs toward Široki Brijeg. To stay on the route to Blidinje, always keep to the right. We recommend using the available GPX navigation file to ensure a smooth and safe ride without getting lost.

Arriving at Blidinje Nature Park

As you approach Blidinje Nature Park, your first sight will be the magnificent Blidinje Lake, nestled amidst a vast field surrounded by mountain peaks. Continue riding along the lake’s right bank until you reach the park’s administration building, where you can find valuable information about attractions, accommodation options, and local cuisine.

Route’s End and Further Adventures

The Blidinje Nature Park administration building is the perfect spot to rest after a challenging ride. If you choose to extend your stay, explore the hiking trails, visit the Franciscan monastery in Masna Luka, or simply enjoy the serene oasis of peace and tranquility. Blidinje offers an unforgettable experience – and every pedal stroke to reach it is well worth the effort.

RECOMMENDATION

Although the trail mostly takes us through populated areas and you drive on an asphalt section, we also come across a macadam section of the trail, while we always think that on longer rides it is necessary to bring a mini tool and a tool for patching inner tires, so the rule also applies to this section. We definitely recommend that you inform your family or friends about your cycling plans before going for a ride.
