About HerzegovinaBike project

The association for the promotion of cycling "Hercegovina Bicikl" implements the project of creating bicycle paths in the region of Herzegovina as part of its stated goals as an association, which are the popularization of cycling as a sport, but also the means that can connect the tourism capacities of Herzegovina through sport-recreational cycling, i.e. cycle tourism .

Herzegovina belongs to one of the most beautiful regions in this part of Europe, which preserves its authentic spirit. At the same time, it is mountainous and lowland, coastal and continental. In a relatively small area, we encounter a wealth of relief and geological forms, landscape and vegetation, diverse flora and fauna, and unique historical and cultural monuments. As part of these findings, the possibility of branding Herzegovina as a cycle tourism destination opens up, which would contribute to the expansion of the tourist season and greater utilization of existing tourist resources throughout the year.

The project "Cycling network of Herzegovina" envisages routing, recording, marking, signaling, presentation on the website and promotion in terms of sports and tourism of the most interesting cycling paths in the territory of Herzegovina, which would connect all the most important and well-known tourist destinations of a certain region.

On  our website, which we can freely say is one of the most comprehensive cycling websites in this part of the country, in addition to the detailed description and presentation of cycling routes, there is the tourist and catering offer of this region, all the destinations you can visit, information about the region through which passes the bicycle route (history, culture and specificity of the region, tourist attractions) and photo galleries and video clips that would present the natural and cultural riches of Herzegovina in a picturesque and attractive way.

The page also provides for the presentation of other thematic routes (wine roads of Herzegovina, Heritage Routes on Trebižat, etc.), as well as the upgrade of the website with new Thematic Routes (such as Ciro Trail, Ciro Heritage, Cycling Rural, Franciscana and others...), then accommodation and other services related to the tourism of this region, as well as all important information about Herzegovina.

It is planned that the station will have links to all important institutions that are involved in the tourist development of Herzegovina. The station will also be presented in English, and in the further stages of the project it should be adapted for users from German, French and Italian speaking areas.

This project is fully in line with EU policy in the context of the development of sustainable tourism in the EU, which is in line with the Lisbon Strategy. In this sense, cycling tourism is identified as a means of "improving living conditions in a sustainable way for current and future generations" (Commission of the European Communities 2006).
