Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje represents the cultural treasure of the region and a place where the history, art and tradition of Herzegovina are preserved and presented to the public. The idea of its establishment came from the famous Trebinje native, poet and diplomat Jovana Dučića, and was officially founded in 1952.
The museum covers an area of approximately 1,500 m², of which 800 m² is dedicated to exhibition spaces. The museum's holdings include a rich collection of around 400 works of art, including paintings, prints, sculptures and various other objects. In addition to permanent exhibitions and legacies, the Museum of Herzegovina also has a significant collection of library materials, with books from various fields of science, culture and art.
One of the museum's significant historical activities was the first archaeological excavation in 1957, carried out at the Church of St. Peter in Zavala. In 1966, the museum published its first publication, Trebinje I, by Vasilije Korać, and in 1975 it launched the magazine Tribunija, dedicated to historical and cultural research in the region.
The museum also operates through an annex in Ušće (Lastva), a legacy of Dubravka Kujačić, where occasional exhibitions, promotions and concerts are held. Thus, the Museum of Herzegovina is not only a custodian of history, but also an active participant in the cultural life of the community.
