Croatian home of Herceg Stjepan Kosača is a significant cultural institution in Mostar, which since its establishment in 1994, as the legal successor of the former House of Culture, has represented one of the main centers of cultural life in the region. The building was built between 1959 and 1965 according to the design of the Sarajevo architect Reuf Kadić, and the construction material was, interestingly, also used for the construction of the cathedral church.
Today, the Croatian House complex includes several halls for various purposes. The largest hall, which has a capacity for 726 visitors, serves as a concert hall and a space for larger cultural events. There is also the Queen Katarina Kosača Art Gallery, which offers a wealth of cultural content, and a small amphitheater-shaped hall with 120 seats, which is ideal for seminars, presentations or book promotions.
The Croatian Center is a key location for organizing cultural, concert and theater events, film screenings, art exhibitions and literary evenings. Among the most famous events it organizes are certainly Matica Hrvatska Days, a cultural program that annually brings together culture lovers from Mostar, Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Bugojno, Međugorje and other cities. This event offers a variety of cultural content, from classical and pop music concerts, to theater and puppet shows, to exhibitions, film days, poetry evenings and book and music CD presentations.
The Croatian Home Herceg Stjepan Kosača is the true cultural heart of Mostar and Herzegovina, a meeting place for different artistic expressions and a space where cultural heritage is preserved and nurtured.
