Saturday; 21.09.2024. - Today, the Ćiro Heritage bicycle race was held, which was postponed last weekend due to bad weather. The participants were greeted by sunny and beautiful weather, which further beautified the route by which the cyclists visited several cultural and historical gems of Herzegovina. The ride included the old town of Počitelj, the necropolis of the Stećaks of Radimlje, the old town of Vidoški, while the town of Stolac was the final destination of this cycling adventure.
Počitelj, known for its Ottoman architecture and picturesque stone houses, is one of the most beautiful historical towns in Herzegovina. The participants had the opportunity to walk through its narrow streets and learn more about the rich past of this city located on the banks of the Neretva River.
Necropolis of stećak Radimlje, protected as a UNESCO heritage, is one of the most significant monuments of medieval Bosnia and Herzegovina. Stećci in Radimlja are unique because of their rich decorations and inscriptions. Special thanks to the employees of JU Radimlje who warmly welcomed us and shared with us valuable information about the history of this destination, enabling the participants to learn firsthand more about the importance and meaning of the stećak.
In Stolac, the cyclists visited the old town of Vidoški, a historical fortress that rises above the city and bears witness to the rich history of this region. They finished their route in this picturesque city, enjoying the beautiful scenery and cultural heritage.
It is important to say that our cycling tour guides shared knowledge and information about all the visited destinations during the ride, which made the cycling not only recreational, but also educational. The participants returned home with new knowledge, memories and impressions, while through this event we successfully promoted Herzegovina as an exceptional cycling destination.
Toni Zorić, president of the HerzegovinaBike association, stated:I want to thank all the participants who responded to this cycling event today. We believe that we once again proved to be good hosts, and that we once again promoted our country as a desirable tourist destination in the best possible light. Tomorrow, the 4th Mostar Bicycling is waiting for us, when, as part of the European Mobility Week, we will promote the importance of urban mobility, a healthy and sustainable way of life. I hereby invite all Mostar cyclists to respond in as many numbers as possible in order to together point out the need for bicycle lanes in the city of Mostar, which will contribute to greater safety and awareness among citizens about the use of bicycles as a means of transportation..”
The next Ćiro cycling event is planned for the beginning of October, when we will promote the route connecting Trebinje and Bileća, and it will also be the last Ćiro cycling event in 2024. We look forward to meeting you again and continuing to explore the beauty of our region!
