The main topics of discussion were the development of cycle tourism in Herzegovina, plans for 2025, and upcoming events aimed at promoting this sector.
With a focus on the development of active and sustainable tourism, the key discussion point was the importance of the partnership between the Tourist Board of HNŽ/K and the HerzegovinaBike Association. It was agreed that the Tourist Board of HNŽ/K will play a crucial role in promoting cycle tourism and organizing events that will enhance Herzegovina's cycling tourism offer. Particular emphasis was placed on the construction of new cycling infrastructure and the expansion of cycling routes, marking a significant step toward creating even more attractive conditions for cyclists.

Statement by Toni Zorić, President of the HerzegovinaBike Association:
"I am extremely pleased that we can collaborate with the Tourist Board of HNŽ/K on the development of cycle tourism in Herzegovina. This project is not only an opportunity to promote our region as an attractive destination for cyclists but also a step towards sustainable and healthy tourism that brings long-term benefits to local communities. I believe that the development of new cycling routes and infrastructure will allow cyclists to experience the natural beauty of Herzegovina in a unique way. Together with the Tourist Board of HNŽ/K and our other partners, we are working on creating a safe and attractive offer that will benefit not only cyclists but the entire region."
One of the key projects to be implemented in cooperation with the Tourist Board of HNŽ/K is the Sarajevo – Dubrovnik Cycling Route. This project is part of a broader initiative called "EU for Local Communities," funded by the European Union and implemented by the Center for Civil Society Promotion (CPCD) in partnership with the HELP organization. The goal is to develop a cycling route connecting two major destinations, Sarajevo and Dubrovnik, providing cyclists with a safe and scenic journey through Herzegovina.

Statement by Anđelko Maslać, Acting Director of the Tourist Board of HNŽ/K:
“The Tourist Board of HNŽ/K recognizes cycle tourism as a crucial segment of tourism development in our region. Herzegovina boasts incredible natural beauty and cultural-historical heritage, and cycling is the perfect way to experience them in an authentic and sustainable manner. This collaboration with the HerzegovinaBike Association will allow us to work together on developing quality cycling infrastructure, promoting Herzegovina as a cycling destination, and organizing events that will attract cycling enthusiasts from around the world. We are particularly looking forward to the implementation of the Sarajevo – Dubrovnik Cycling Route project, which will enhance the region’s tourism offer and ensure a safe and enjoyable cycling experience. Our goal is to create a recognizable and competitive cycle tourism destination that will bring long-term benefits to local communities and the entire tourism sector“.
Following the completion of this project, plans are also in place for the development of a new 385 km-long cycling route, with details to be revealed in the future. Initial meetings with municipalities along the planned route have already taken place, and all cities and municipalities have expressed interest in participating in and supporting the project.

According to an updated report from the European Cyclists’ Federation, the estimated annual benefits of cycling at the EU level amount to an impressive €513.19 billion, with €44 billion attributed to cycle tourism. This report highlights the importance of investing in cycling infrastructure and ensuring safe conditions for cyclists while also emphasizing the need for stronger promotion of cycling as a recreational and sports activity. Key factors in the development of cycling tourism include the planning and design of safe and attractive cycling routes, the construction of cycling paths alongside road networks, and the improvement of traffic laws and cycling environments.
The partnership between the Tourist Board of HNŽ/K and the HerzegovinaBike Association marks the beginning of a new era for cycle tourism in Herzegovina, aiming to create sustainable and attractive conditions for all cycling enthusiasts. This joint effort will not only introduce new infrastructure but also increase visitor numbers, promote regional attractions, and encourage a healthier lifestyle.
The continued collaboration between the HerzegovinaBike Association and its partner organizations will be crucial for the further development of cycle tourism in Herzegovina, positioning the region as a recognized destination for cyclists from around the world. Notably, the Tourist Board of HNŽ/K, the Tourist Board of the City of Mostar, as well as companies like Continental Tires and HT Eronet are key partners of the HerzegovinaBike Association in advancing active and sustainable tourism and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
