Sutjeska National Park

Sutjeska National Park is a protected area located in the Republika Srpska entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded in 1962 and covers more than 200 square kilometers. The park got its name from the river Sutjeska that flows through it.

Sutjeska National Park is home to diverse flora and fauna. Some of the species found in the park are bears, wolves, lynxes, chamois and many species of birds and plants. In the park there is also the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maglić, which is located at over 2386 meters above sea level.

In addition to natural beauty, Sutjeska National Park is also rich in cultural and historical significance. The park was the site of the famous Battle of Sutjeska during World War II, in which Yugoslav Partisan forces fought against the German army. Today, visitors can visit the Tjentište memorial complex, which commemorates the battle and the fallen fighters.

A total of nine hiking trails, the longest and most difficult of which is 22 kilometers long and can usually be completed in 8 hours at a moderate walking pace and without rest.
Longer trails require caution, physical fitness and suitable footwear, so if you are not up to it, try shorter ones

2. Cycling
For those who like to explore on a bike, there is one trail just for cyclists. The trail starts at Tjentište (near the Information Center) where you can rent a bike if you don't have your own.

The trail is 48 km long and ends at Lake Orlovac, where there is a hunting lodge and camp.

3. Rafting
Adrenaline addicts can experience rafting on the Tara river in the Sutjeska canyon. Tourists who decide to "take a ride" on the Tara River receive the following rafting equipment: a neoprene suit and boots, a life jacket, a helmet and an oar, and in case of rain, a raincoat.

They will be trained by a professional skipper, who manages the ship. Rafting on Tara is also possible in the neighboring NP Durmitor, only a 2-hour drive from Sutjeska.
