The southern rampart of Mostar is surrounded by the hill Hum, from which perhaps the soul and beauty of Mostar can be best seen. It overlooks the Old Town and the Old Bridge, and from it the view reaches into the depths of western and southern Herzegovina, and boulders can be seen around it in its entire radius. From the north, the mountains Prenj and Čvrsnice rise, from the east, Velež, and to the south, the view reaches Biokovo, which rises above the Makarska Riviera.
Although Mostar's hill Hum is unavoidable in the history of Mostar throughout all generations, and is often mentioned with its specific position and the viewpoint that offers the most beautiful view of the city on the Neretva, for the general public there are numerous secrets that Hum keeps that are absolutely unknown, among which are military fortifications from the Austro-Hungarian era. Hum Hill, as a former line of demarcation in the wars of the 1990s, next to Podveležje, was one of the most dangerous mined areas in the vicinity of Mostar, especially because it is one of the places where people go to nature. Along the access road to the top, you can see the remains of a bunker from the Second World War.
The route is intended for recreationists who are in some condition, but not for beginners because the entire section is uphill. A couple of easy plain tours are recommended, before starting the ascent to Hum. The entire section is paved, so the ascent is possible both with a MTB and a road bike, with the fact that mountain (MTB) bikers can afford a beautiful circular tour around the top of Hum with a look at the bunkers that were used during the war.
