Cycling for a Healthy Lifestyle and Sustainable Tourism
Mostar/Čapljina – After two postponements due to bad weather, Sunday finally brought perfect conditions for yet another Ćiro event, attracting as many as 180 cyclists to the route between Mostar and Čapljina. Once again, the ride confirmed its status as one of the most beautiful cycle tourism events in the region, promoting a healthy lifestyle, sustainable tourism, and the natural beauty of Herzegovina.
Today’s ride covered a distance of 35 kilometers along the scenic route that follows the former narrow-gauge railway line of Ćiro. A photo break and memory-making stop was held at the Buna Channels – a site whose natural beauty simply calls for a pause. The entire route was picturesque, and the ride along the Neretva River was truly breathtaking, offering pure joy to all nature and cycling enthusiasts.
Upon arrival in Čapljina, the cyclists joined the traditional “Čapljina Bike Ride,” which continued for another 25 kilometers. A particularly memorable part of the day was the ride along the Trebižat River, whose tranquility and beauty further enriched the cycling experience through Herzegovina. The hosts from Čapljina provided a warm welcome and organized lunch on the riverbank, rounding off the day in a perfect way.
The organizers expressed great satisfaction with both the turnout and the overall organization of the event. They were especially pleased with the large number of children who participated, confirming that Ćiro rides are increasingly becoming family events that bring together all generations.
“And that is the best part of these cycle tourism events – they bring people together: families, generations, and everyone discovers the destination in the most beautiful way. Cycling through nature, visiting cultural and historical sites, socializing, enjoying local food, and above all – the positive energy that spreads across social media as everyone shares photos and experiences from Herzegovina. It doesn't get better than that,”, said representatives of the HerzegovinaBike Association.
The Ćiro Route, once a narrow-gauge railway line, has now been transformed into a true oasis for cyclists and once again demonstrated how recreation, tourism, nature, and community can come together for an unforgettable experience. Through projects like this one, Herzegovina is becoming an increasingly recognizable cycle tourism destination.
Once again, Herzegovina showed its heart – open, welcoming, and ready for all those who wish to explore its beauty on two wheels.
